A friend of mine at work loaned me a copy of MechWarrior 2, circa 1995. There were two goals:
1) Hear the sound track that comes on the Disk
2) Attempt to get the game to play on WinXP
Getting the game to install was tricky enough.

I’m not sure if my midi was working. And ‘Electronic Registration’ was a fax machine.
I do wish I had gotten a screenshot warning me that the “Full” install was “105 MegaBytes”. Wooo, considering my drive has around 384 GigaBytes free, I wasn’t too concerned. Besides, FF takes up around 9 GB and my FRAPS folder is another 5 GB.
The game does not currently play. It crashes as it tries to start the actual game – although the opening CSs play fine in their 640×480 glory. I also cannot get screenshots of the game, FRAPS apparently does not realize it is playing a game.
Oh well, it was worth it just to see if I could make the game run. I have not given up yet, but I believe it will take something a little more exotic than I had originally planned. Now if I can find my copy of Win95 and Virtual PC, I might be able to make this work.
